Today I got "sucked" into to watching a marathon of "weight focused" shows on OWN. I turned it on and watched way too many women crying about their battle with weight. I felt so bad for them and honestly it really kinda made me depressed. I watched about three one hour episodes as I worked on editing my holiday photos. I decided to turn it off and not get caught up in that feeling. Every show was focused on how to lose weight and there was so much inspiration BUT there was so much sadness. So many women expressing feelings of hate towards themself. It broke my heart. I have battled with those feelings myself. You know feeling like your not worthy if your "not perfect" and skinny. I think getting older has definitely helped me. I no longer dwell on those thoughts. I focus on the good. Like knowing that my family loves me UNCONDITIONALLY. They could care less if I'm a size 14 or a size 6. I know that when you focus on self love and acceptance it makes such a HUGE difference in HOW we see ourselves. We need to be KINDER to ourself. Are we not our own WORST critic?
Every channel is focused on weight loss. Every magazine is too. I'm not saying it's wrong. It's LIFE...it's what it is. Wouldn't it be funny if all the shows focused on things like CHARACTER and how to be a better person? instead of WHAT we look like. Unfortunatly, society focuses on HOW we look. I fall prey to this like everyone else. Every woman I knows wants to be considered attractive, stylish and accepted. Anyway, I hope if you are struggling with issues with your weight that you will know that NO MATTER what size or shape you are...you are WORTHWHILE, BEAUTIFUL, and that YOU DESERVE to be happy every single day no matter what size you happen to be.
Okay... did not mean to really even go there. Ha! I love blogging. It's a way to share from the heart.
