I have enjoyed a couple days of sunshine and felt like I needed a little SUMMER remodel in my living room. Many of may not know that my background and first "hobby" and passion was interior design. BS- Before Scrapbooking: I was always decorating mine or someone else's home. I have used what I learned in school and used it to help me "design" my scrapbook collections. One of my talents in the design field was that I was able to take "inexpensive" pieces and revamp them. It was what I loved to do. I would go to junk/antique stores and find hidden treasures. I could see the possibilities in what other's did not. That is probably why I am BIG on offering affordable crafting products.
I like to take something and change it up to make it "me" or if it was for a client, to reflect their desired style more. I am always looking for chic looks that are affordable. So this is what my couches looked like ( I have two but am showing just one) before:
I have a love for tan and khaki colors in my home. My couches are simple so that I can change the pillows for a different look. This weekend my goal was to add some SUMMER to our home.
Note: My window drapes are FLOCKED black damask print on a burlap texture fabric. I had these made when we did our kitchen remodel and I'm still in love with them. I tend to go for classic pieces that are not trendy. I change my accessories as needed, but keep the furniture and drapes more neutral.
I found these simple cream/white pillows at Walmart this weekend. They were really soft and inexpensive ($13.00 each). I felt they needed a little TC love... a little ornateness. I often buy things and change them up by adding buttons, or spray painting to change the color, etc.
I sewed buttons with green shiny emeralds to the middle of the pillows. ($1.97 for each button at Wal-mart) I have been in a BIG TIME green mood lately and it felt like SUMMER to me. *** hint hint CHA Summer!!!! (*PLUS, no one has pillow like you do! You can create your own ONE OF A KIND pillows)
I found these beautiful green swirl fabric pillows that matched the buttons. The color GREEN that I felt seemed like Summer to me. (Swirl Pillows from Wal-Mart $13.00 each Better Homes and Garden brand)
This is the end result. It was just what I wanted to add "lightness" and a warm feel to our living room. Hope you enjoy seeing my little "redo." I am working on something else that I will show next week. A way to display your favorite photos in your home. I am wanting to get back to my "roots" more and hope you will enjoy seeing what I am up to in the "home design" area of my life.
We visited Taylor and Spencer's new home this weekend. I was so "in awe" at her first place. She decorated it beautifully and on a budget. She proudly told me about all the "deals" that she paid for her furniture. (gently used kitchen table $30.00- that looked brand new) I felt her heart and warmth in her home. She had photos everywhere and her home felt so inviting. I will see if she will let me share photos. I never knew that she would have such a "gift" and love for decorating too. I am a firm believer in that YOUR home is your castle. It should be your "safe haven" from the world. Surround your home with things that make you happy and want to be home. Congrats Taylor and Spencer!!!!
We had another event happen this weekend. McKay went to her MHS Spartonian (Drill Team) Ball. It was Friday night and she looked so pretty. We actually found a place that rents out prom dresses. I regret all the dresses that we paid for. They are hundreds for dollars and the girls only want to wear them once. This time, we found her beautiful dress and it was so much cheaper. They clean them before and after you rent them.
This is McKay's friend Jacie (McKay on right).
She is blessed to have such wonderful friends-
McKay has always been kind hearted and a friend to many. I love how she is this way. She is a great example to me. It is so rare for her ever to be in a bad mood. She find happiness in the simple things.
The dance held at the Huntsmen Center (downtown Salt Lake City). Everyone from the drill team, the cheerleaders and the dance team from the high school can attend.
The girls with their dates. Look at how happy they all look!!!! I love this.
McKay knows I love these type of photos. I gave her the camera to take and made her promise to take photos. You only have ONE chance to capture these type of memories. Cute sandals, girls!
A group photo of the drill team and their coach (top left). MHS Drill Team 2010-2011. Next year, since I am the head Captains mother, I am in charge of organizing this event. I hope I can do this special night justice. I love each of these girls and am thankful for the friendship that they have. I can't believe my "baby girl" is going to be a SENIOR next year!
