I was emailed last week by my friends at Channel 4- KTVX news to help in a news story. It is going to air this FRIDAY in Utah on the morning, and evening news program. They are starting to do stories to foster community action on GIVING back and helping others. Nathan Clarke heard about it and contacted the TV station. It seems his wife, Michelle is an avid scrapbooker. Unfortunately, they had a flood in their home and she lost EVERYTHING. She lost over $10,000 worth of scrapbook stuff.
Michelle's husband secretly asked for help from the station and the girls at GOOD THINGS UTAH. Rox (producer) and Nicea (anchor/tv personality) contacted me and asked if I would like to surprise Michelle and donate products to her. I immediately jumped at the chance. The TV station had arranged to come to their home in Ogden, Utah today with the intent of doing a interview with them about the flood damage.
Michelle had no idea Nicea would be coming, or that she would be surprised with SCRAPBOOK supplies. Nicea went in first (which I am sure surprised her- Nicea is a TV superstar- love her!) and did a interview.
Then the door bell rang- Michelle opened the door to see Lori Allred (Imaginese) and ME at her door- holding our scrapbook donations. (She also got items from Making Memories and Provo Craft)
I could tell she was SHOCKED. Here is the part that "got to me"...I could see her eyes and she was full of gratitude...and I actually thought I was going to cry. I stumbled for words as I spoke with her. I really hope they edit my conversation- oh, please, this would make my day.
She was OVER the TOP grateful for any and all supplies. Nathan stood and watched his wife and I kept looking over at him. HE distracted me. I could literally see the love in his eyes for his wife. I admire HIM for thinking so much of HIS wife...and HER passion and hobby. I literally was overwhelmed to witness this.
I found out that she LOST everything in the flood. All of her scrapbooks. I can't even imagine. That can make any scrapbooker cry. Think about the love and time we put into our pages. All gone....The good news is that her husband has ALL of her pictures backed up and on the computer. Smart man!!!
I can't express how much I enjoyed today. How emotional I STILL am for getting to witness this. I gave her one of everything in my collections and had at my home. I wanted her to have LOTS to choose from. I wish I had MORE to share- I want to invite her to my home and come take anything she needs. I have more than enough for one girl. Funny thing, I woke up a little blue and something came into my head. My mother always told me..."the BEST thing to do when your down in your dauber is to SERVE someone else. Stop focusing on yourself and do something to help someone." I was able to do something to help in my small way. I KNOW my mom was right- and I'm thankful for her great words of wisdom. MISS YOU MOM FOREVER!!!!!
Remember FRIDAY is the SLC Scrapbook EXPO- I will be with the girls at Good Things Utah in their booth from NOON until 1pm. It's a CUTE make n take!!!!
UPDATE: IF YOU WANT TO DONATE TO MICHELLE- PLEASE EMAIL ME- I CAN SEND YOU THE ADDRESS. THANKS FOR ASKING EVERYONE!!!!
